| Date | Time | Your Name | We currently have three events per year - Individual Champ - Team Champ - Hall of Fame; I care about the the following | Tell us what is important to you about the CGRA | Willing to Serve? | Change Name? | Name Change Comments | Use of Profie? | |
| 2/3/2012 | 10am | Dick Mitchell | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | Hall of Fame | Yes | Yes | Need a name change to attract more members | Will send in information | |
| 2/3/2012 | 10am | Henry Lister | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | I use it to contact people with work. I would enjoy more
opportunities to "clatch" face-to-face about Hall of Fame nominees
- offer suggestions, discuss qualifications, etc. I'm always interested in reporting opportunities. Provides a professional presence to what I do. We need another project like HoF. |
Yes | No | More representative and encourages inclusion of other media members. | Keep informing members of it. See if it can be expanded to a LinkedIn Group to encourage networking.
| 2/3/2012 | noon | Jack Bacot | Hall of Fame | networking and fellowship - and education. | Perhaps in the future | Yes | Recently the Magazine Publisher's of America (MPA) over 100 year old organization - changed its name to "the Association of Magazine Media" - the key word being media - because as they explained, content is produced over numerous platforms - golf media is not longer newspaper and magazine journalist - now includes social media content, blogs, tweets, facebook pages, and more - time to join the movement. | need to be prompted and will make changes | |
| 2/3/2012 | noon | tom mcauliffe | Team Championship, Hall of Fame | It lent credibility and to some degree, validation, for my otherwise insane pursuit of golf journalism | Yes | Yes | it is a more inclusive title | ||
| 2/3/2012 | noon | Howard Ward | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | The most imporant thing is the Hall of Fame. Without our hall,
there is no way for amateur golfers and others in the industry in the
Carolinas to be honored. The Carolinas PGA started its HOF only after we
established ours. But the CPGA only honors professionals ... and John Derr,
of course. Other than the HOF, the asssociationi allows us to meet and maintain relationships with others in the profession. How many of us would even know each other without it? It will be a tragedy if we can't save this organization in some form. |
Yes | Yes | Changing times in media. Regular newspaper reporters are no longer the backbone of the organization. Unless we change, we die. | It's a great feature. Don't understand why everyone doesn't use it.
| 2/3/2012 | noon | Michael Dann | Individual Championship, Team Championship | Hall of Fame and awards. Also the chance to team with Rich to beat the Mitchells. | Been there, done that. | No | It does not make a bit of difference to membership recruiting. CGMA is harder to say than CGRA. | I don't want the police to find me. | |
| 2/3/2012 | not able to attend | Doug Stephens | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | It's a great group that helps spread the word and promote the great game of golf. | Perhaps in the future | Yes | It might help expand the group and bring in more people. | none | |
| 2/3/2012 | not able to attend | Kevin Brafford | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | I think it stands for excellence in many areas, and because there's such a tradition, I hate to see it go away. | Perhaps in the future | Yes | Makes sense, given today's landscape. | I don't think I'd ever use it -- just not my style. | |
| 2/3/2012 | noon | JW Farquhar | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | Getting to meet with others in the business. Golf. Reviewing golf courses. Can't understand why all "Golf Reporters" are not on the Golf Panel that rates golf courses. | Yes | No | Although media probably better name, a name change must have a purpose and a game plan with follow through. | Will add | |
| 2/3/2012 | 10am, noon, 2pm | Elsa Bonstein | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | I like the idea of networking with others in the golf media business. Also, when there is an event in this area, I can get the word out through our association press releases. I learn something new each year. | Working on novel, time limited for now. | Yes | Yes, most of us write about golf, but the public perception of a
"Reporter" is not what we're about.
We do all kinds of things, write, talk, speak, take photographs, etc.
etc. The new name encompasses more. |
I will update my files. | |
| 2/3/2012 | 10am | Steve Williams | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | Everything that we do ... I like the HofF, meetings, the championships, the awards. Just wish more people would be involved. What do the retired folks do with all their time? | already do ... can't offer much more time at this time. Maybe if I ever retire. | No | History of the organization. In addition to the extra steps you mentioned earlier, it would mean a lot of extra trouble for treasurer (checks, deposit slips, bank account name would have to be redone) ... I just don't see how a name change will make a big difference. | update | |
| 2/3/2012 | not able to attend | Bill Bauer - Fair Play, SC | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame, Golf gatherings | I am working on Monday the 27th (my real job at Clemson) or I
would attend. The Hall of Fame is important - I am a big fan of tradition. It
is also important for promoting golf at all levels in the Carolinas. When
members and guest gather for tournaments, golf outings, and the H of F
celebration, the opportunity for networking among members is invaluable; as
is the friendship. I brought a guest to Pinehurst this past year, an old
friend who moved to my end of SC, and he thought the entire program, not to
mention the golf, was outstanding. He wished he belonged! That says something
in itself. (Ask Steve to resend me the dues notice. I was traveling when I got it and trashed the email) Thanks for all you have done.... |
Help out at my end of SC. | Yes | I have only been a member for five years but I have seen that the number of "reporters" has been slowly diminishing; being replaced by internet bloggers, radio and television media, and magazine writers like myself. The future lies in the media. When I was on a media trip to Cabin Bluff (Doug Hollandsworth) last summer, there were 32 of us - and I think I met one feature writer for a Macon newspaper. The rest were a blend of the above. To expand membership and networking, the image has to change as well. | I have.
| 2/4/2012 | not able to attend | Gene Hudson | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | The CGRA organization as a whole. Recognizing our own members for their accomplishments as well as Hall of Fame members.. Getting together with media of all facets.....Meeting our comrads from all over the state as well as outd of state | Perhaps in the future | Yes | I think you described it best when you said that the new name may open up to more signees that origionally may have thought that you had to be a reporter or writer to be a member of the organization | I need to sign in on it and get it done and will i checked not able to attend because I will be in Ohio at this time |
|
| 2/4/2012 | noon | bill hensley | Hall of Fame | Yes | Yes | ||||
| 2/7/2012 | noon | Jim Johnson | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | The networking and friendships have always been an important part of this association for me. | Perhaps in the future | Yes | By changing our name we are keeping up with the times and possibly inviting a younger group of prospective members to look at us a bit more seriously. | I've just been lazy...It will be done before the Ides of March are over. | |
| 2/7/2012 | noon | Bob Hodor | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame | Comraderie. | Yes | Yes | The term Media better identifies the composition of the membership. | If I was not retired, I would surely use the section to highlight capabilities, goals, etc. Since I am retired, I will likely not utilize this feature. | |
| 2/7/2012 | noon | Putterboyd | Hall of Fame | No | Yes | I think it delivers the correct message. | If I were still employed, it would make more sense. | ||
| 2/7/2012 | 10am | Betsey Mitchell | Hall of Fame | Hall of Fame is important. If the CGRA is unable to hold itself together, another association needs to take up the responsibility. | No | Yes | Transition from "reporter" to "media" broadens our membership base potential | Mine is there. Others have been reminded numerous times | |
| 2/9/2012 | not able to attend | carol bulone | Individual Championship, Team Championship, Hall of Fame, any other tool to communicate with peers | It is a tool to gather information and meet peers with the same
interests. Note: unfortunately, we have family matters at present that would prevent us from any active involvement. I do know this is what keeps any organization going but in the furture i look forward to more participation. thank you for all you time and effort. Betsey you did a wonderful job and it will be a loss to see you go. |
Perhaps in the future | Yes | Changing the name to incude all media should promote and entice additonal memberships and gives us a broader range from which to gather resources. | i just have not gotten around to it but it is a good idea to exposure. |
