Cornelius, NC -- Second round results of the 85th Women's Carolinas Amateur Championship hosted by The Peninsula Club on Wednesday, May 25, 2011.  Par 36-36-72, 5813 yards. 

Courtney Gunter of Matthews, NC started her round out strong by making birdie on her first four holes to start the day.  Unfortunately, those would be the only birdies she would make for the rest of her round.  Gunter holds the lead by three strokes over Caroline Ellington of New Bern, NC.  Defending champion, Corrine Carr of Pinehurst, NC is currently in 12th place.

"My putter felt really solid today," said Gunter.  "I hit a lot of greens as well.  My plan for tomorrow is to remain patient and not get ahead of myself."  Ironically, Ellington plays for NC State University which is a big rival team of the University of North Carolina where Courtney (Gunter) plays on the women's golf team.  The two will surely fight to the finish not only for the championship trophy but also for bragging rights.

In the Carolinas tees division, Sook Hee Yang of Jamestown, NC maintains a six stroke lead heading into the second round over Bonnie Montgomery also of Jamestown, NC.  This division plays a shorter course.  Players will be placed into flights for the final round within their respective division. 

Play will begin at 9:00am for all players with a shot-gun start.
